Black Agricultural Leadership Council was founded in 2024 by Jonathan (JT) Jones-Thomas (Left), Ardell Shaw (Right) and a group of farmers, educators and activist who wanted to provide sustainable access to land for their local community.
The Black Agriculture Leadership Council (BALC) is an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting Black individuals and communities in the agricultural sector. BALC focuses on addressing systemic barriers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices by providing education, resources, and advocacy. The council collaborates with local farmers, agricultural experts, and community leaders to foster growth, economic opportunity, and food security.
At Black Agricultural Leadership Council , we believe in the power of partnerships. We work closely with farmers, agricultural organizations, and research institutions to promote sustainable agriculture practices and improve food security. Our partnerships allow us to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in agricultural technology and share our knowledge with others.
The mission of BALC is to create a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem that benefits ALL. Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, BALC strives to build a future where Black farmers thrive, and their contributions are recognized and valued across the agricultural landscape.
